De succesvolle Hollywood impressario, Jack Giarmo (Ben Affleck), heeft alles wat zijn hartje begeert: een succesvolle carrière, geld en een beeldschone vrouw, Nina (Rebecca Romijn). Toch blijft Jack het gevoel houden dat er iets in zijn leven ontbreekt en hij gaat een cursus schrijven volgen om zijn gevoelens te ontdekken. Wanneer Jack er vervolgens achter komt dat zijn vrouw hem bedriegt met zijn belangrijkste cliënt, begint zijn perfecte leventje scheuren te vertonen. Als dan ook nog zijn dagboek gestolen wordt door een ambitieuze journaliste beginnen de problemen pas echt. De geheimen in zijn dagboek kunnen het einde betekenen van Jacks carrière en privé-leven. Jack moet zich in allerlei bochten wringen om zich hier uit te redden.
